Ken Koenemann

Ken Koenemann
Vice President - Business Development and Marketing

A lean leader with more than 16 years of experience with lean and Six Sigma implementation across the value chain on both the shop floor and in business processes, Ken Koenemann brings to TBM expertise in teaching and coaching lean and value-chain concepts and using those concepts in sourcing, manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, and planning and scheduling processes.

Before joining TBM, Ken was director–delta at American Greetings in Cleveland, OH, where he served as a leader of the internal strategy and consulting organization focused on delivering large transformational projects to meet strategic objectives. While there, he led the redesign of the seasonal card business, and initiated a business-process redesign effort to enable new go-to-market strategies and reduce costs. Earlier in his career, Ken was Managing Director Consumer & Industrial Market Supply Chain practice where he worked as a consultant to large and mid-sized consumer and industrial companies implementing lean and Six Sigma across supply-chain operations.

As Managing Director of TBM’s Lean Value Chain Practice, he has focused exclusively on delivering Lean Value Chain training and implementation with companies such as Assa Abloy, ConMed, Energizer, McCain, Pactiv, Sealy and WIKA Instruments.

Ken’s lean experience began with Toyota Gosei, where he was responsible for deploying TPS in the manufacturing operations in the US as well as in the supply base. He was trained by two original members of Taiichi Ohno’s Autonomous Study Group and spent six months in Japan learning and implementing TPS. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in management from the University of Missouri–St. Louis


Dan Sullivan

Dan Sullivan
Executive Vice President and Partner

Dan Sullivan is Executive Vice President and Partner of TBM Consulting Group, Inc. He serves on the TBM Board of Directors and leads the firm’s North American consulting operations. He joined TBM as a team leader and helped the company expand operations throughout North America and into Mexico and Brazil.

Dan joined TBM in 1994 and became a partner in 2000. Prior to joining TBM, Dan served as Director of Body Engineering at Nissan Motor Manufacturing Corporation. During his tenure at Nissan, he held several progressively responsible roles in engineering and operations. Dan is considered to a subject matter in the Toyota Production System. In fact, he studied lean with the Japanese and established Nissan’s shop floor improvement system called Nissan Gemba Kanri in the late 1980s.

He is recognized and often requested by clients for his deep experience in establishing leadership and management systems that support sustainable high performance. He is adept at motivating teams and has remained a trusted advisor to many executives including a 17-year relationship with Pella Corporation. Most recently, Dan is working directly with senior leaders at Pactiv Corporation, Carlisle Companies and John Deere to implement lean business systems, drive cultural change, and align continuous improvement initiatives to key strategic objectives. He helps clients develop, implement and perfect their management process with Hoshin Kanri (Strategy Deployment / Policy Deployment) to achieve breakthrough objectives.

Dan has a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management from the Georgia Institute of Technology.


 
Bob Dean

Bob Dean
Executive Vice President -Dploy and Technology

Bob Dean is a co-founder of TBM Consulting Group, Inc. and vice president of administration and product development, a role that keeps him on the leading edge of trends in business improvement. Bob has been instrumental in the incorporation of lean business techniques and Six Sigma - creating LeanSigma - and in taking the improvement tools that traditionally belonged to manufacturing and applying them to service industries.

Bob is a frequent contributor to the Managing Times quarterly journal where he writes on developments in lean philosophies and, most recently, he has been helping companies integrate their value chains beyond manufacturing.

For nearly 20 years, Bob has been consulting with companies from the manufacturing and service sectors worldwide such as Allied Signal, Ames True Temper and Pella Corporation. He continues to have close ties with the Japanese team responsible for the legendary Toyota Production System, and has worked extensively with the core group of men who worked under Taichii Ohno, recognized as the father of just in time. Bob is a graduate of Clarkson University with a degree in Engineering.


 
Joe Panebianco

Joe Panebianco
Director - Training Solutions

A former operations manager with broad manufacturing and business experience, Joe Panebianco joined TBM in 2003 and currently serves as Director and Team Leader of the TBM LeanSigma Institute.

As operations manager at Paramount Die Company, Joe implemented lean principles throughout the organization, reducing lead time by 90 percent and eliminating all late orders for the first time in the company's history.  During his tenure at Bayside Controls, Inc., Joe held leadership positions and was part of the management team that grew the company 50 percent annually, for six consecutive years, transforming Bayside from a small machine shop to a leading manufacturer of precision gear systems.

Joe is the author or numerous articles on the subjects of continuous improvement, training, culture change, and e-learning.  He is a regular contributor to TBM's Managing Times and has also been published in Training and Manufacturing.net. Joe has also presented at conferences and webinars on the topics of Managing for Daily Improvement, Ten Best Practices of a Continuous Improvement Office, and Energy Kaizen.

At TBM, Joe is sought after for his team-building and leadership skills, as well as his ability to help clients visualize and develop a transformation plan. He is uniquely skilled in effectively interfacing with all levels of an organization to facilitate change. Since joining TBM, Joe has become a trusted advisor to companies such as Owens Corning, Gokaldas - India, American Achievement Corproation, Energizer, Assa Abloy, Hubbell, Pratt & Whitney, EnPro Industries, and Special Metals Corporation.

Joe has a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Loyola College in Maryland.


 

David Hicks
Vice President - Consumer Products

A lean leader and long-time quality professional, Dave Hicks brings to TBM clients a unique approach to quality and productivity improvements through implementation of lean methods.

Before joining TBM, Dave served Teleflex Incorporated as corporate quality director, global director of quality and continuous improvement, and manager of quality and reliability. At Teleflex, he used his expertise to implement lean in many industries — automotive, aerospace, medical devices, industrial and marine. Dave was highly desired for his quality improvement program using lean techniques. He has trained many people in statistical methods.

Since joining TBM, Dave has become a trusted advisor to Ceco Door, Janesville-Sackner, Pratt & Whitney, Conn-Selmer, and Hubbell Industrial Technology, where he is focusing on improving quality, lead time and productivity, as well as reducing inventories.

Dave has an MBA from the University of Findlay, Findlay, Ohio, and a Bachelor of Arts and Communication degree from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. He has taken several graduate statistics courses from the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York and holds a SixSigma Master Blackbelt certificate.


 

Bill Remy
Senior Vice President, TBM Asia Pacific

Bill Remy is a senior executive with over twenty-five years of leadership experience in business management and manufacturing operations. His areas of expertise include operational performance improvement through LeanSigma deployment in manufacturing operations, supply chain, product development and project management. He has experience in broad phases of business leadership across various industries including aerospace and defense, railway, industrial and agricultural equipment, technology and process automation. Bill returned to TBM in the summer of 2011 after working at Invensys as Vice President, Continuous Improvement. Prior to Invensys, Bill led the initiative to develop and launch TBM’s lean supply chain practice.

At Invensys Bill led the implementation of the company’s global continuous improvement programs for three business units with more than 20,000 employees operating in 80+ countries. The program has delivered over £100 million in annual productivity improvements, trained more than 3,000 associates and completed over 5,000 kaizen events or projects during a three-year period. Prior to joining TBM the first time, Bill was president of Thayer Aerospace, where he tripled the business in six years, improved profitability and increased inventory turns by instilling lean methods. In previous positions, he developed manufacturing cells and key performance metrics, focused on throughput and lead-time reduction and implemented various setup-reduction activities. His broad base of experience includes roles at Learjet/Bombardier, Lockheed-Martin, Allied-Signal and Intel Corporation.

Today, Bill is responsible for developing and growing TBM’s Asia-Pacific business. He helps North American companies expand and build strong operations abroad and works with privately-held and state-owned industry in China, Southeast Asia and India. Bill has worked closely with companies such as Vermeer, Franklin Electric and McCain Food to develop supply chain improvements, implement lean operating systems, and leverage those improvements for sustainable competitive advantage. Bill has a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma.


 

Michael Serena, Ed. D.
Vice President - Medical Products and Pharmaceutical

Mike Serena has been with TBM for more than 15 years and has held positions of director of consulting and managing director of UK and France operations as well as heading up international TBM LeanSigma Institute operations. A partner with TBM since 2002 and a former educational psychologist, Mike is recognized for his expertise regarding site and corporate cultural transition, management development, and new product/process launches. He has lived and worked in the U.S., Europe, India and Japan.

Mike was a tenured professor of educational psychology at Miami Dade University, where he conducted research in artificial intelligence. He began his industrial career in 1981 with Nissan Motor Manufacturing, supporting their site launch and becoming a plant operations manager and an expert in lean principles. During that time, Mike trained and lived in Japan studying both the culture and lean applications. He also served as vice president of operations for Polymore Circuits, a Ford Motor Company supplier, for five years.

Mike has worked as a lead consultant with international companies such as Maytag, Enpro Industries, Unipart, Amana, Vermeer, Hubble, Special Metals, Halliburton, Gokaldas-India, and Pella Corporation and its acquisitions since joining TBM in 1994. He has also worked in both the Medical Device and Pharmaceutical industries such as ConMed, Catalent and Hill Rom and has a good working knowledge and application of AAMI Regulatory Compliance to lean transformations.

Mike has a degree in industrial psychology from The Ohio State University in Columbus. He also has a master’s degree in educational psychology and a doctorate in educational psychology and statistical analysis from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Mike also has an AAMI Certification in the FDA CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) Quality Systems Requirements and Industry Practice.
